I wondered that too, Chrisme, and it was explained to me that Fifth Business was first published in the UK in 1971. The article explaining the omission of books published in 1970 makes it sound like Fifth Business was not eligible because of that, but in actuality, was it just not submitted?
If it's just a case of not having been submitted, is this the first time we've heard from the Booker officials about what was or wasn't submitted in any given year? I thought that wasn't allowed.
