
Best of Booker on the BBC
John Mullan, one of the judges responsible for drawing up the shortlist of six, gives a potted guide to each book.

Tonight's Newsnight Review on BBC Two at 23.00 (Friday 4 July) features a discussion about the six books on the shortlist for the Best of the Booker award. The prize, a one-off honour to celebrate the Prize's 40th anniversary, will be awarded on 10 July at the London Literature Festival.
The shortlisted books are The Conservationist by Nadine Gordimer, J M Coetzee's Disgrace, Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children, The Siege of Krishnapur by J G Farrell, Oscar and Lucinda by Peter Carey, and The Ghost Road by Pat Barker.
The programme will be presented by Martha Kearney. The panellists featured discussing the books with Professor Mullan are author Kate Mosse and writer and academic Sarah Churchwell.
