As the dust settles after the announcement of this year's longlist, judge Alex Clark realises that judging such a prestigious award isn't 'as easy as it looks'.

Writing her first blog post for this site, she wonders whether, after years working as a literary journalist, she is 'poacher-turned-gamekeeper or vice versa'.  Whatever the answer, it is an 'exhilarating ride'.
