2008 shortlisted authors to take part in exclusive anniversary event

As part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Booker Prize, the Southbank Centre is hosting a special evening of readings and discussion with the 2008 shortlisted authors. The six shortlisted authors will be announced next week on the 9 September 2008. This event will take place at the Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall on Monday 13 October at 7.45pm.

Tickets for the event go on sale today (4 September 2008), giving the public a chance to join the shortlisted authors on the eve of the 2008 winner announcement. The event will consist of readings from the six shortlisted titles, debate and an audience Q&A chaired by Ion Trewin, Literary Director of the Man Booker Prizes. Signed copies of each of the six titles will also be available to guests.

The 13 authors on the longlist are Aravind Adiga, Gaynor Arnold, Sebastian Barry, John Berger, Michelle de Krester, Amitav Ghosh, Linda Grant, Mohammed Hanif, Philip Hensher, Joseph O'Neill, Tom Rob Smith, Salman Rushdie and Steve Toltz.   

The shortlist of six will be announced on 9 September 2008.  The shortlisted authors taking part will be confirmed after this date.
