Aravind Adiga loses out to non-fiction title

The Secret Life of Words, an academic writing about the history of the English language, has beaten the 2008 Man Booker Prize winner The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga to win the prestigious John Llewellyn Rhys prize.
The Secret Life of Words by Henry Hitchings is the first non-fiction book in six years to win the award, which is open to authors aged 35 or under writing in all literary genres. The book deals with the roots of modern English and the origins of words.
