
Linda Grant wins South Bank Show award
The Clothes on Their Backs win major award

Linda Grant has won the Literature award at the annual South Bank Show Awards in London (21 January 2009). awards. Playwright Sir Tom Stoppard presented Linda Grant with the award for literature for The Clothes on Their Backs.
She won the accolade for her Man Booker-shortlisted book The Clothes on Their Backs (Virago), beating competition from Tob Rob Smith's Child 44 (Simon & Schuster) and Kate Summerscale's The Suspicions of Mr Whicher (Bloomsbury).
Other winners include the Donmar Warehouse winning for their production of Othello, starring Ewan McGregor. The visual arts prize went to the Peter Doig exhibition at the Tate Britain and the film prize went to Hunger from Steve McQueen. Theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh was presented with an award for outstanding achievement.
The South Bank Show Awards will be broadcast on ITV1 on 28 January 2009.
