
Aravind Adiga wins Author of the Year
Man Booker winner honoured at industry awards

Aravind Adiga, winner of the Man Booker Prize 2008, picked up the Borders Author of the Year award for his novel The White Tiger (Atlantic Books) at the 2009 Galaxy British Book Awards, better known as the Nibbies.
Adiga beat Orange prizewinner Rose Tremain, Costa Book of the Year winner Sebastian Barry (also shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2008) and Costa biography laureate Diana Athill to win the award. The award was presented to him by actor and comedian, Jack Dee on Friday 3rd April at an awards ceremony at Grosvenor House.
The Galaxy British Book Awards celebrate the best of UK publishing and are hosted by Richard & Judy.
Other winners on the night included Barack Obama who won the Biography of the Year, Michael Palin winner of the Outstanding Achievement award, Sebastian Faulks for the Popular Fiction Award, Stephanie Meyer for the Children's Book of the Year and Kate Summerscale for the Popular Non-Fiction Award.
Started by Publishing News Ltd. in 1990, the awards take votes from both the book-buying public and the Academy of the British book industry, made up of publishers, booksellers, past winners and other representatives of the British book industry.
