Kelman wins Scottish Book of the Year Award

Former Booker Prize winner James Kelman has won the Scottish Book of the Year Award for Kieron Smith, Boy.
The winner of the £30,000 prize was announced at the Borders Book Festival in Melrose, hosted by comedian and write Rory Bremner.
Managed by the Scottish Arts Council (SAC), the awards are now sponsored by the Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust (SMIT).
On winning the prize Kelman commented, 'There are good writers working in this country and it is an honour to be awarded the SMIT-SAC Book of the Year 2009.'
Kelman won the 1994 Booker Prize for How Late It Was, How Late which is one of a number of Booker-winning titles from Vintage that are to be printed as special new editions in August. He was also a contender for this year's Man Booker International Prize.
