Former Booker winner John Berger donates his archive for free to the British Library

23 June 2009

The archive of Booker prize-winner John Berger is being transferred from his French home to the British Library.

Jamie Andrews, Head of Modern Literary Manuscripts at the library, travelled to the Alps on 20 June to sort out Berger's papers which have been stored in an old stables.

Once catalogued, the archive will be accessible to researchers through the Library's reading rooms.

Berger won the Booker Prize in 1972 for his novel G. His other work includes Ways of Seeing and From A to X which was longlisted for last year's Man Booker Prize.
