The Slap leads best-selling longlist

12 August 2010

The Man Booker Prize 2010 longlist is the strongest-selling since 2001 according to Nielsen BookScan data.

Sales of the longlisted titles reached nearly 11,000 copies last week, up 47% on the sales of the 2009 longlisted title in the comparative week, and up 246% on the 2008 sales.

Christos Tsiolkas' Commonwealth Writers' Prize-winning novel The Slap is the biggest selling novel from the longlist so far with sales of over 5,000 copies in the last recorded week.

Last year's Man Booker Prize winner, Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall (Fourth Estate), has sold 485,000 copies to date, taking the total to £4.3m in the UK alone. The hardback edition sold 225,000 copies, up 10,400% (or £2.7m in sales terms) on Mantel's previous novel, Beyond Black.

The Man Booker Prize 2010 shortlist will be announced on 7 September, with the winner announced on 12 October.
