Carry Me Down wins UK literary prize

M.J. Hyland has been awarded the Hawthornden Prize 2007 for her novel Carry Me Down. Carry Me Down, her second novel, was first shortlisted for the 2006 Man Booker Prize for Fiction. It went on to be shortlisted for the 2007 Commonwealth Writers Prize and longlisted for the 2007 Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction. It was also awarded the Encore Prize for best second novel.
Established in 1919, the Hawthornden Prize is one of the oldest literary prizes in the UK. It is given for the best work of imaginative literature and winners receive £10,000.
M.J. Hyland lives in Manchester, where she teaches in the Centre for New Writing at Manchester University.
