Ladbrokes announced their latest odds on the Man Booker longlist this week revealing that following a run of money Nicola Barker’s odds were cut from 10/1 to just 5/1.

With Ian McEwan at 4/1, Nicola Barker is creeping up in the stakes. Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: “Ian McEwan boasts an impressive Booker Prize CV. But Nicola Barker is who the punters want to be with. She could prove to be McEwan’s biggest threat.

“At present, 50 per cent of all wagers have been for the East London resident.”

The layers make McEwan and Barker 1/20 and 1/10 respectively to make the final six. Weinberg added: “It will be a huge surprise if the current favourites fail to make the cut.”
