Shortlisted novelists celebrate
Four of six shortlisted meet judges
7 September 2007
This year’s Man Booker Prize shortlist party was a major celebration as four of the six shortlisted authors were in London at the time of the announcement (Thursday 6 September 2007).
Nicola Barker, Mohsin Hamid, Lloyd Jones and Indra Sinha joined publishers, literary agents, booksellers and library reading groups for the celebratory party at the Century Club in London.
Ion Trewin, Administrator of the Man Booker Prizes, opened the evening with an announcement about a new Man Booker marketing initiative. This was followed by a speech from this year’s Chair of Judges, Howard Davies, who stressed the importance of the Man Booker Prize bringing a wider audience to the newest authors as well as the more established writers on the list.
The exhausted, but elated, Man Booker judges were pleased to meet four of the six shortlisted novelists at the event. They will meet again on Tuesday 16 October 2007 to decide on this year’s winner.
The announcement will be made on the same day at the Man Booker Prize dinner at Guildhall.
