Monica Ali

Brick Lane, 2003, Shortlisted

Monica Ali was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh in October 1967. As an infant, she moved to the north of England with her family. She studied politics, philosophy and economics at Oxford University. Her first novel Brick Lane was shortlisted for the 2003 Man Booker Prize. In the same year she was named by Granta magazine as one of twenty ‘Best of Young British Novelists’. Her second novel, Alentejo Blue, set in Portugal, was published in 2006. She lives in London with her husband and two children.
