Synopsis
Kathy, Ruth and Tommy were pupils at Hailsham – an idyllic establishment situated deep in the English countryside. The children were sheltered entirely from the outside world and brought up to believe they were special. But why were they really there?
Now thirty-one, Kathy looks back on the past and narrates the haunting story of how she and her two friends slowly came to confront the truth about their seemingly happy childhoods – and about their futures.
Author Biography
Kazuo Ishiguro was born in Nagasaki, Japan in November 1954 but moved to Britain in 1960. He won the Booker Prize in 1989 with The Remains of the Day, and was shortlisted in 1986 for An Artist of the Floating World, in 2000 for When We Were Orphans and in 2005 for Never Let Me Go. He received an OBE for Services to Literature in 1995, and the French decoration of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1998. He lives in London.
